Chennai weaves world's costliest sari at Rs 40 lakh

Chennai: A palanquin arrived amid much fanfare at Chennai Silks, a textile house in Tamil Nadu, to give a princely welcome for an outfit that's fit for a queen – a sari studded with gold, diamonds, emeralds and other precious stones. The textile house has woven what it claims is the world's costliest sari, one that costs Rs 40 lakh and weighs around eight kilogram.“The most special thing about the sari is the Ravi Varma painting which has been woven into it. All the intricate details in the painting have been replicated like the curly hair of the ladies and the jewels they are wearing,” Assistant General Manager of Chennai Silks K V Sriram said. While it has already entered the Limca Book of Records, the company says it will try to enter the Guiness Book as well.It took 30 weavers around seven months to make the sari and its launch was also star-studded with actors Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Shobhana and Jeeva attending the event. So, was the attempt just for a record?
“This sari can be worn. Normally also it can be used, so it’s not just for a record,” Sriram said. The director claims they have already received enquiries regarding the sari and hopes that it will be sold soon.

Genuine Shrunken Head

This head came from a normal sized person! The Jivaro Indians of Ecuador claim their enemies' heads as symbols of bravery and display them - reduced to fist sized - as war trophies.

Believe it or not!!!

One entire gallery is dedicated to illusions that will challenge the best of minds.

Once considered an omen of disaster, most animals born with 2 heads or multiple limbs die at birth. The occasional one however, like this calf, live "normal" lives for many months.

Dangling cars from his head is all in a day’s work for professional ‘Head Balancer’ Evans. He’s balanced people, books and beers, but the car’s by far the most deadly trick – a strong wind and it could be the end of the road for John.
John’s a gigantic guy. He’s 2 meters tall and weighs in at 155.7 kg (343 lb). But it’s his 60.9cm (24-inch) neck that’s the only part of his body strong enough to take such immense weights. So the slightest slip, trip or nudge could send him tumbling to a crushing death, as his arms wouldn’t be able to cope with the load!
This big fella has broken 25 records in 11 categories and is going for more.

The UK's Tony Collins holds the Guinness World Record for the longest wait on a hospital trolley after spending 77 hours and 30 minutes stuck outside the toilets in the Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon, UK, between February 24 and 27, 2001.
“I’d contracted a virus,” said Tony about his record-breaking experience, “and although I was taken in at 3 p.m. on the Saturday, it wasn’t until 8.30 p.m. on the Tuesday that I was found a bed in another ward, when an elderly patient was moved to make room for me.”
“I developed a bad back, had no privacy, and had to rely on the nurses to bring me a drink because there was nowhere to rest a jug!”
Despite his ordeal, Tony, a diabetic, returned to the hospital the day after he was released to thank the nurses who helped him deal with his pain – and give them a gift of a microwave oven!
“I can think of better records to have,” reflected the bed-sore superstar. “And unfortunately, it will probably be the sort of record that gets broken every day in the NHS.”
Ironically, as Guinness World Records researchers were considering his claim, Tony fell ill again, was forced to go back into hospital – and was left on a trolley for another 60 hours!
